BEVERLY HILLS, October 21, (THEWILL) – The election petition tribunal in Akwa Ibom State has ordered a rerun in 18 out of the 31 Local Government Areas in the state after finding credible evidence of electoral fraud in the last governorship election.
Some of the affected LGAs are Nsit Ubium, Nsit Ibom, Ibiono, Uyo, Etinan, Udung Uko, Oruk Anam, Etim Ekpo, Onna, Uruan, Ikono, Ini, Ibesikpo, Nsit Atai, Eket, Ibeno and Ikot Abasi.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mr. Emmanuel Udom of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the election ahead of another main contender, Mr. Umana Umana of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The tribunal, which is sitting in Abuja, is led by Justice Sadiq Umar.
The tribunal was however silent on the prayer seeking invalidation of the election of the governor.
