Appeal Court Affirms Obaseki’s Election As Edo Governor

BEVERLY HILLS, June 09, (THEWILL) – The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate in last September’s election in Edo state, Osagie Ize-Iyamu have lost their suit against the victory of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

This was as the Court of Appeal sitting in Benin City, the Edo State capital, on Friday, validated the election of Obaseki, who flew the flag of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the September 28 2016 poll.
While filing the appeal, the PDP and Ize-Iyamu had alleged that the Justice Ahmed Badamasi-led Edo State Election Petition Tribunal erred and truncated their right to fair hearing by the unequal treatment given to the cases of the parties.
They contended that the tribunal did this “by first finding fault, discrediting, disbelieving and dismissing their petition before considering at all and reviewing the testimonies of the witnesses of the respondents and, thus, occasioning a miscarriage of justice.”
