SAN FRANCISCO, March 05, (THEWILL) – Months after wanton attacks and killings in different states of the country began, President Muhammadu Buhari is set to visit the states affected.
THEWILL recalls that over 70 people were killed on New Year’s Day in Benue State, while the killings, spurred by terrorism, armed brigandage, and communal violence hit Yobe, Taraba, Zamfara and Rivers state.
Although, the President has met with Governors of some of the affected states and had sent some Ministers, he had been unable to personally visit the affected states and has been criticised by many Nigerians.
However, in a statement on Monday through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President will visit areas that have been affected by terrorist attacks, communal clashes which have led to the loss of lives and properties and kidnap of over 100 girls in Dapchi.
In view of recent terrorist attacks, criminal activities and communal clashes in some States leading to tragic loss of lives and kidnapping of 110 schoolgirls, President Muhammadu Buhari immediately tasked the Armed Forces and other Security agencies to compile comprehensive reports on the various incidents,” the statement read.
“Having received and studied the Reports, the President has decided to undertake an on the spot assessment of the various occurrences and to meet and console the communities affected.
“From today, March 5, he will visit Taraba, and subsequently Benue, Yobe, Zamfara and Rivers States.
“President Buhari has been receiving daily briefings, and has been in constant touch with the Governors, and has been updated with situation reports.
“The President has therefore called on all Nigerians especially those in the affected areas to cooperate fully with the Security Agencies to enable them to curb the spate of crimes, bring those responsible to justice and prevent further occurrences.”
