SAN FRANCISCO, June 08, (THEWILL) – The Kano State Governor has appointed Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the former Governor of Central Bank as the emir of Kano.

The announcement was made a few minutes ago by the state government.

The appointment of Lamido Sanusi is coming as a surprise to many pundits considering that the Emirs Council had earlier on Sunday nominated Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero, the first son of the late Emir of Kano, as its choice as Emir of Kano.

In fact, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, confirmed the nomination of the first son of the deceased Bayero in an earlier tweet.

However, the Kano State Governor, is vested with the constitutional powers to appoint an Emir in the state.

Mallam Lamido Sanusi was born on July 31, 1961.

With the formal announcement by Mr. Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, the Secretary to the Government of Kano State, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the Giwar Dan Majen Kano and the grandson of the 11th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, becomes the 14th Emir of Kano under the Fulani dynasty.

THEWILL authoritatively gathered that the leaders of the APC, Nigeria’s main opposition party, pressured Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to jettison the Emirs council’s nomination of Alhaji Sanusi Ado Bayero, the first son of the deceased emir of Kano for the former CBN Governor.
