April 05, (THEWILL) – Brighton and Hove Albion boosted their hopes of securing a spot in the UEFA Champions League with a superb 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
Teenager Evan Ferguson’s left-heel goal, after turning home a low cross, was enough to move Brighton four points off fourth-placed Tottenham with two games in hand. Julio Enciso sealed the three points with a second-half stoppage-time goal, slotting home after Pascal Gross’ fine pass.
Bournemouth, on the other hand, drop back into the bottom three, sitting 18th below West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Everton on goal difference. They are one of four sides on 27 points in the EPL.
Although Roberto de Zerbi’s side are unbeaten away from home since October and have lost just one of their past 11 Premier League matches, they received a blow to their European hopes when midfielder Moises Caicedo was forced off injured in the second half after landing awkwardly on his ankle.
Brighton’s next match is away to Tottenham on Saturday, a game that could prove to be crucial in their pursuit of UCL football. Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s next game will be against Leicester on the same day.
