February 11, (THEWILL) – The Bayero University Kano (BUK) is to confer an honorary Doctorate Degree on a former Military Governor of Kano State, Col. Sani Bello (rtd), at its 39th Convocation scheduled to be held between February 12 and February 15, 2025.
Also to be conferred with an honorary Doctorate Degree at the occasion is Alhaji Auwalu Abdullahi Rano, popularly known as A.A. Rano.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof.Sagir Abbas, disclosed this while addressing Journalists on preparations for the hosting of the event.
Abbas said Col. Sani Bello would be conferred with the honorary Doctorate Degree in recognition of his contribution to the development of education while serving as Military Governor of Kano State, including the establishment of the two prestigious Science Secondary Schools at Dawakin Kudu and Dawakin Tofa.
He said A.A. Rano would be conferred with the honorary Doctorate Degree also in recognition of his contribution to the development of education such as granting of scholarships to students from his native Rano area studying at the institution, and other philanthropic activities.
“Additionally, the 39th Convocation will witness the awarding of Emeritus Professor titles to three distinguished retired Professors.
“These are Professor Garba Dahuwa Azare, Professor Julius Afolabi Falola and Professor Musa Mohammed Borodo”, he said.
The vice chancellor also disclosed that a total of 8,769 students will graduate at the convocation, adding that the first day of the ceremony would see 4,402 graduates from eleven faculties receiving their degrees, diplomas and certificates.
On the event’s second day, he said 4,367 graduates from seven faculties would graduate.
“The highlights of this day include 176 First Class degrees, 275 PhDs, 2,590 Masters Degrees and 535 Postgraduate Diplomas.
“These impressive numbers demonstrate the university’s commitment to academic excellence and its students’ hard work and dedication”, he said.
Abbas then disclosed that the Convocation Lecture would be delivered by Khalil Sulaiman Halilu, Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of NACENI, and the title of the lecture is “Innovation and Entrepreneurship: A Pathway to National Development.”
“The Chairman of the Convocation Lecture is the Hon.Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji”, he added.
Abdullahi Yusuf is a seasoned journalist, communicator and was previously the Deputy Editor-In-Chief and Zonal Manager, News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Jos, where he retired on December 15, 2021
