July 26, (THEWILL) – Two officers of the Guards Brigade, Nigerian Army, who were ambushed by terrorists on Sunday, in Abuja, have been confirmed dead.
A confidential security source said the officers (names withheld), in the ranks of Captains, died from gunshot injuries, which they sustained during the attack on their convoy, while on patrol of Bwari General area by the terrorists.
THEWILL gathered one of the officers, was a Regular Combatant Officer, while the other was a Direct Short Service Commission Officer.
The source said the Guards Brigade authorities have contacted the families of the deceased officers to break the sad news of their passing.
The incident has thrown the entire Guards Brigade family into a mourning mood.
However, the brigade has deployed massively to surrounding hills and forests to track the killers.
The source said soldiers, who are in the bush have made tremendous progress with the onslaught of several terrorists, bandits and other criminals hibernating within the FCT and surrounding Niger state.
THEWILL had reported that soldiers from elite Guards Brigade, on patrol of Bwari Area, where the Nigerian Law School and the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), are located, came under attack from Boko Haram terrorists on Sunday.
The incident, which happened around the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), had left some Officers, in critical condition.
A cryptic message on the attack titled ‘Ambush Attack Against Own Troops Of Gds Bde’, had noted that: “At about 241620A Jul 22, own tps of 7 Gds Bn on routine ptl along Rd Kubwa – Bwari were ambushed by suspected terr. 3 x sldrs were injured during the attk. The sldrs have been evacuated to 7 Gds Bn MRS for med attn. Details on the extend of their injuries still under cfm. The ambushed attk happening within the gen area of Bwari shows that the terrs are actually within the loc and possibly to carry out their plans of attacking the law schl in Bwari as earlier reported.”
