January 29, (THEWILL) – Manchester United secured a comfortable 3-1 victory over Reading in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday night.
The Championship visitors put up a strong defensive effort for the first 45 minutes, but the Red Devils eventually broke through with two quick goals from Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.
The first goal came from a precise pass from Antony, allowing Casemiro to chip Reading goalkeeper Joe Lumley. The second goal came from a long-range strike that found its way into the bottom corner of the net.
The match took a turn in United’s favor when Reading’s Andy Carroll was sent off for two bookable offenses. Fred added a third goal for the home team, cleverly back-heeling a cross from Fernandes in at the front post. Reading managed to score a consolation goal late in the game, but it was too little too late as United secured their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The Red Devils will next face Nottingham Forest in the return leg of the EFL Cup. Meanwhile, Reading will return to the Championship where they will continue to battle for a playoff spot.
