August 30 (THEWILL) – Chelsea have agreed to a £45 million deal with Manchester City for 21-year-old forward, Cole Palmer.
Interest in Palmer surfaced as Chelsea looked to boost manager Mauricio Pochettino’s attacking options after seeing an approach for Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe rebuffed earlier this week.
Manchester-born Palmer made 25 appearances for City last season, with just seven starts. So far this campaign, he has featured in the Community Shield and UEFA Super Cup, where he scored City’s equaliser.
With his playing time unclear, Palmer had sought assurances from manager Pep Guardiola that were not forthcoming. Guardiola rates Palmer but told him he was free to depart if dissatisfied with his prospects at City. Chelsea made contact and received an encouraging response.
Palmer has already been granted permission to undergo a medical with Chelsea ahead of finalising the £45m transfer.
