January 06, (THEWILL) — Chelsea Football Club has announced Liam Rosenior as their new head coach, with the 41-year-old signing a deal that runs until 2032.
The former Hull City and Derby County boss moves from French side Strasbourg, another club within the BlueCo ownership group.
His arrival follows the departure of Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day, after internal disagreements with the ownership became impossible to resolve.
The appointment was finalised after Rosenior held a farewell press conference in Strasbourg on Tuesday morning, where he informed the French club of his decision before completing the move to west London.
Three members of his backroom team will accompany him to Stamford Bridge. Former defender Kalifa Cissé, who represented clubs including Reading and Bristol City during his playing career, takes up an assistant coaching role.
He will work alongside fellow assistant Justin Walker and head of analysis Ben Warner.
Speaking after his appointment, Rosenior outlined his vision for the club.
“I am extremely humbled and honoured to be appointed Head Coach of Chelsea Football Club,” he said.
“This is a club with a unique spirit and a proud history of winning trophies. My job is to protect that identity and create a team that reflects these values in every game we play as we continue winning trophies. To be entrusted with this role means the world to me and I want to thank all involved for the opportunity and faith in undertaking this job.”
The former England international stressed the importance of collective effort in achieving success at Stamford Bridge.
“I believe deeply in teamwork, unity, togetherness, and working for one another, and those values will be at the heart of everything we do,” Rosenior explained.
“They will be the foundation of our success. There is a real hunger to win, and I will give everything, every single day, to help this team compete and win at the very highest level to make everyone connected and proud to be a part of Chelsea Football Club.”
Rosenior acknowledged the crucial role supporters will play during his tenure, recognising their significance to the club’s identity.
“I want our fans to be proud of who we are and what we represent in every single game that we play,” he stated.
“They are the soul of this enormous, historic, and huge football club. I cannot wait to meet you all. I cannot wait to get started.”
The manager inherits a squad built through significant investment and will be expected to deliver silverware during his lengthy contract.
