February 29, (THEWILL) – Chelsea claimed their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Leeds United at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
The English Premier League side fell behind early on to a Mateo Fernandez goal but hit back through goals from Nicolas Jackson and Mykhailo Mudryk to lead 2-1 at half-time.
Leeds restored parity in the second half when Fernandez grabbed his second to make it 2-2. However, Chelsea substitute Conor Gallagher popped up with a late winner to break Leeds’ hearts and book the Blues’ place in the next round.
The game was a real cup thriller, with both teams having periods of dominance. Ultimately Chelsea’s extra bit of quality in front of goal proved decisive as they set up a quarter-final tie with Leicester City.
The win provides a much-needed boost for Chelsea and manager Mauricio Pochettino after their Carabao Cup final defeat to Liverpool. Meanwhile, attention turns back to Leeds’ promotion push as they aim to return to the EPL.
