January 22, (THEWILL) – The Chairman of Eastern Obolo Local Government Area, Hon. Samuel Nteogwuijah, has lauded Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his swift response to the recent cholera outbreak in the area.
Nteogwuijah expressed his gratitude during a visit by the Conference of Online Publishers in Akwa Ibom State which embarked on a developmental assessment tour of local government councils in the state.
He disclosed that while the local government had implemented preliminary measures to contain the outbreak, the governor’s intervention through the Ministry of Health ensured effective management of the crisis.
Health officials were deployed to the affected areas, and patients were promptly transferred to Emmanuel General Hospital in Eket for comprehensive treatment.
To prevent future outbreaks, the council has constructed public latrines to combat open defecation, reducing residents’ exposure to severe health risks.
Highlighting the council’s commitment to infrastructure development, Nteogwuijah revealed plans to revisit the abandoned permanent secretariat of the council, a project that has been dormant since 1999.
The construction of the secretariat, which includes 72 office spaces and a conference hall, has been captured as a capital project in the council’s 2025 budget.
The chairman also showcased other developmental strides, including the construction of a compassionate home for a destitute indigene, now 75% complete, and two solar-powered boreholes in Iko Town and Okoroiti, both ready for commissioning.
In education, Nteogwuijah highlighted the introduction of grants for 100 indigent students, with a second batch of beneficiaries set to be announced soon.
Leading COOPA’s delegation, Chancellor Mr. Utitofon Morgan described the tour as an opportunity to assess progress across local government councils and strengthen partnerships with grassroots leadership.
Morgan emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering accountability and promoting development across the state.
Nteogwuijah reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of Eastern Obolo residents through impactful projects and partnerships.
