SAN FRANCISCO, January 20, (THEWILL) – The Justice Ademola Adeniyi-led Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to produce the former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) in court on February 16, 2016.
This was after both the prosecution and the defence lawyers in the suit filed by the Federal Government withdrew various interlocutory applications they had earlier filed.
The court held that the absence of Dasuki, who is being charged for money laundering and illegal possession of firearms, had not being permitted by it, adding that he must present himself in person to face the allegations leveled against him.
Upon resumption of hearing in the suit on Wednesday, counsel to the EFCC, Dipo Okpeseyi, did inform the court of his client’s intention to withdraw an application earlier made against Dasuki’s bail.
Okpeseyi said his clients had issued an application on November 3, for the revocation of Dasuki’s bail, stressing that they would like the application withdrawn. After this, he filed a fresh application seeking the protection of witnesses who will testify against Dasuki.
The judge however struck out the prayer for revocation of Dasuki’s bail application for lacking in merit and adjourned the matter till February 16 and 17 for ruling on the application for secret trial and commencement of trial.
