BEVERLY HILLS, December 21, (THEWILL) – A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Kano has remanded, social activist, Deji Adeyanju in prison until February 2019.
The court took the decision on Friday after listening to his plea and concluding that it lacked the competent jurisdiction to have a hearing of murder charges against Adeyanju who was arrested on the 13th of December for an alleged complicity in a case early in the 2000s.
The police in Abuja held him in detention for five days before moving him to Kano earlier this week.
The police in Kano had arraigned Adeyanju before Hassan Fagge on December 19, but ordered him to be remanded and scheduled on Friday for bail hearing.
The Magistrate court opened at about 9:42 a.m. Friday, and Fagge said he had determined that he lacked the power to hear the homicide charges brought against Adeyanju by the police, but said the political activist should be remanded in prison until February 6 when a higher court could be available to hear the matter.
