Update I: Dana Aircraft Suffers Mechanical Failure

Update: Dana Flight 9J358 has now landed safely in Lagos at 11.pm Nigerian time.

SAN FRANCISCO, January 19, (THEWILL) – A Dana Air Flight 9J 358 from Abuja to Lagos Saturday evening was forced to return to the airport because the wheels would not retract after taking off.

THEWILL gathered that the pilot decided to return to Abuja because it was unsafe to fly the aircraft to Lagos with its wheels out.

A passenger on the aircraft narrated the incident to THEWILL when the plane touched down in Abuja. Dana Air is yet to officially comment on the incident.

The male passenger who asked not to be identified but sent us a screen shot of his boarding pass, said engineers have fixed the issue and the aircraft has received NCAA clearance to depart for Lagos. As at the time of updating this report at about 10.18pm Nigerian time it appeared the plane was already airborne again.

Dana Air planes are notorious for mechanical issues and have recorded a crash that resulted in many fatalities.
