December 01, (THEWILL) — The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced its readiness to supply 1.5 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to the Nigerian market monthly, beginning December 2025, signalling a major step toward stabilising the country’s fuel supply and reducing reliance on imports.
In a letter to the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), the refinery’s Chief Executive Officer, David Bird, confirmed that the facility will deliver 50 million litres of PMS daily—amounting to 1.5 billion litres per month—through December and January. He added that the monthly supply will rise to 1.7 billion litres (approximately 57 million litres per day) from February 2026.
Bird emphasised that the refinery is prepared for full transparency and requested NMDPRA to station officials onsite from December 1 to verify and publish daily supply volumes. He noted that Dangote Refinery is willing to publicly disclose its daily production and stock levels using both online and print platforms.
The refinery also sought regulatory assistance to ensure smooth importation of crude, feedstocks, and blending components, as well as efficient lifting of refined products by vessel. It raised concerns over persistent delays in vessel clearance, which it said have created operational setbacks, increased costs, and inefficiencies.
“We will appreciate your usual consideration and support to secure Nigeria’s domestic fuel security and abundance. Please allow the ‘Nigeria First’ policy to work to the benefit of all Nigerians”, Bird stated.
The commitment represents a significant milestone for Nigeria’s downstream sector as the Dangote Refinery—Africa’s largest—moves toward full integration into the nation’s fuel distribution network.
Petroleum marketers say the development could enhance energy security, reduce import pressure, and strengthen market stability in the months ahead.
