May 9, (THEWILL) – The Honourable Commissioner of Sports Development, Bayelsa State, Dr Daniel Igali, has intervened in the crisis rocking the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Bayelsa Chapter, as members of the association buried their hatchets for the good of the union.
The peaceful resolution was reached by all parties after the Honourable Commissioner of Sports held an emergency meeting with members of the association in his office on Wednesday.
Daniel Igali who presided over the meeting joined by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Grace Alagoa, Chairman of the State NUJ, Samuel Numonengi and as well the Director of the Ministry of Information, Ade Bakare, said as a ‘father’, he will no longer afford to see a divided Bayelsa SWAN, hence the need for the intervention.
Although there were varying arguments, members observed that all the commissioner’s orders would be respected, agreeing that the union’s interest was paramount.
In a separate remark, the State NUJ chairman, Samuel Numonengi and Director of Information Bayelsa State, Ade Bakare, appealed to all parties to make sacrifices and sheath their swords, to allow peace to return for the benefit of all.
They also authenticate the 3-man Caretaker Committee, chaired by Loveday Herbert.
In addition, the constituted SWANECO is to conduct an election within a month while imploring them to be neutral and restore sanity, as well as heal the wounds, that all qualified members intending to contest will test their popularity at the polls.
