May 23, (THEWILL) – Brighton and Hove Albion boss, Roberto De Zerbi, believes that highly sought-after duo, Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister, could be convinced to remain with the English Premier League club following their qualification for European competition.
Both Caicedo, an Ecuador international, and Mac Allister, an Argentine World Cup winner, have attracted interest from several top teams due to their impressive performances throughout the season. De Zerbi acknowledges that the midfield pair will be in even higher demand once the transfer window opens.
However, De Zerbi is hopeful that Brighton’s successful bid to secure a place in Europe for the upcoming season will play a significant role in influencing their decision regarding their future. They are currently preparing to play what could potentially be their final game at the Amex Stadium in the last fixture of the season against Manchester City,
“It can be the last game but I don’t know,” De Zerbi said. “They can have the possibility to change clubs because they deserve to play at another level. But now we can offer them the opportunity to play in Europe because our status has elevated. We can provide them with an additional possibility.”
When questioned about the impact of a European place on the players’ decisions, De Zerbi responded: “It can be. They can have more motivation. But, they are very good individuals. When I work, I consider myself, I consider my club, but I still consider the players because they have one career, one life, and we cannot make decisions on their behalf.” Brighton currently sits in sixth place and is virtually guaranteed a spot in the Europa League due to their superior goal difference compared to seventh-placed Aston Villa.
