SAN FRANCISCO, February 04, (THEWILL) – A coalition of traditional rulers of the 24 Kingdoms of the Urhobo nation on Tuesday adopted the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, as the candidate to support in the forthcoming governorship election in the state, THEWILL has learnt.
This came barely a day after two factions of Urhobo apex group, Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU), endorsed the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate, Chief Great Ogboru and Olorogun O’tega Emerhor of All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Delta state governorship race.
The Urhobo paramount rulers also threw their weight behind President Goodluck Jonathan for his second term bid.
They promised to mobilise their subjects to vote en-masse for the President in the February 14 presidential election and Okowa/Otuaro governorship ticket in the February 28 election.
The traditional rulers met at the palace of the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, Oharisi II.
It could be recalled that a few weeks ago, the forum of Urhobo Traditional Rulers had, during the visit of the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Steve Oru, announced their backing for Jonathan’s re-election bid.
Spokesman of the traditional rulers, HRM Emmanuel Sideso, Abe I, the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, had said that they resolved to back Jonathan because of his track records in the governance of the country.
