Secretary to the Benue State Government, Mrs Deborah Aber, has confirmed that governor Hyacinth Alia has approved the domestication of Disability Act and has forwarded the Memo to the Benue State House of assembly for more legislative work.
The SSG made the disclosure when she held a meeting with members of the Joint National Association of People with Disability (JNAPD), at the Cabinet Office, Makurdi, and urged the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Disability Matters, Mr Bem Anshe, to carry every member along and be transparent in his conduct.
Represented at the meeting by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Politics and Gubernatorial Liaison, Dr Denis Zwawua, the SSG expressed the commitment of the Alia administration to the welfare of people with disability in the state.
While charging them to show love to one another and remain united to attract more government attention, Mrs Aber directed for immediate conduct of the election into vacant positions in the JNAPD to continue to have a forum where matters relating to disabilities will be addressed by the state Government.
In their separate remarks, Miss Faith Yaasa, Sunday Sambe, among others, commended the SSG for intervention and peace deal, promising to abide by the resolutions for peace to to sustained.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Disability Matters, Mr Bem Anshe, described the Disability Act Bill by the Alia administration as a step towards inclusion of people with special needs in the state.
According to him, the long awaited bill was not only beneficial to them but the entire citizenry, as no one is immune to disability.
Mr Anshe, therefore, appealed to members of the assembly to expedite action on the bill, and governor for the appointment of a Sign Language Expert to be translating proceedings to them in the course of duty.
He also appealed to members of JNAPD to rally round him to deliver on mandate assigned to his office.
