January 02, (THEWILL) — Former Abia State Governor and current Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has absolved President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of blame regarding the current state of insecurity in the country. He instead challenged state governors to take full responsibility for securing their territories to end the cycle of violence.

Speaking during a New Year visit to the Ebonyi State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, in Ekoli Edda on Thursday, January 1, 2026, Kalu insisted that the primary responsibility for local security lies with the state executives.

“People are saying President Tinubu should do this and do that to end insecurity—no!” Kalu told journalists.

“When I was governor, I took charge of Abia. Nobody could move anywhere without us securing the lives and property of our people. Abia was the safest state in Nigeria then because I was committed and present.”

Kalu singled out the Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, as a model for other state leaders, describing him as one of the few governors successfully securing his people.

He urged other governors to “come back and secure their states,” noting that if every governor effectively managed their domain, the entire country would be safe.

The Senator also used the visit to sound a political warning ahead of the 2027 general elections. Despite his friendship with the incumbent Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, Kalu vowed to deliver the state to the APC in the next cycle.

“Alex Otti is my friend, but I don’t discuss politics with friendship. I will only vote for my party, the APC, and work for its victory in the next general election,” Kalu stated.

“Abia will be APC in 2027. I will work for President Tinubu to win in Abia, and I will lay my heart on the field for any APC governorship candidate.”
