February 04, (THEWILL) – Borussia Dortmund have completed the loan acquisition of Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea, strengthening their midfield options for the remainder of the 2024/2025 season. The 21-year-old English midfielder joins the Bundesliga club with an option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the current campaign.
Chukwuemeka, who originally transferred to Chelsea from Aston Villa in August 2022, has found limited opportunities under current manager Enzo Maresca. During his time at Stamford Bridge, he accumulated 32 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist, but started only once in the current season.
Speaking about his move, Chukwuemeka was enthusiastic about joining Dortmund. “It is very exciting for me, and I am truly honoured to be part of this great club,” he stated. “I cannot wait to play in front of the fans at Signal Iduna Park and help us all to be successful together.”
The transfer continues Borussia Dortmund’s tradition of developing young English talent, following successful past acquisitions of players like Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham, and Jamie Gittens. The club currently sits 11th in the Bundesliga standings, with new manager Niko Kovac taking charge following Nuri Sahin’s dismissal last month.
Chukwuemeka’s arrival represents a strategic move for Dortmund, offering fresh midfield creativity and potential for long-term development. The loan agreement provides both the player and the club an opportunity to evaluate a potential permanent transfer, highlighting the club’s commitment to identifying and nurturing emerging football talent.
