SAN FRANCISCO, October 10, (THEWILL) – With barely 48 hours to the senatorial election in Delta Central Senatorial District, the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) chieftain representing Udu /Ughelli Federal Constituency, Honorable Austin Ogbaburon Thursday led hundreds of his supporters to decamp to the PDP.
The move which analysts say will give a significant boost to the chances of the PDP in Saturday’s election effectively marks the end of the current political fortunes of DPP as Honourable Ogbaburon switched his ticket to the PDP.
Honorable Ogbaburon while addressing his supporters and Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan in his home at Orhuworun said they have retraced their path to the PDP and were ready to ensure that the party takes the senate ticket in Saturday’s election.
“We who were in the DPP and all other small parties have today crossed over to the PDP, we are tired of being in the opposition, we see that President Goodluck Jonathan is listening to us the Urhobo people and we have better chances with a PDP senator in Abuja. We are going to win by a wide margin,” he said.
Meanwhile, Governor Uduaghan has prayed for a peaceful poll when voters come out on Saturday to cast their votes.
Speaking while accepting the former members led by Honorable Austin Ogbaburon, he prayed for peace in Delta State explaining that all those who are prophesying anarchy following the elections will be disappointed.
The Governor who sang praise songs in appreciation of the political success of the PDP in Ughelli/Udu Federal constituency said the former DPP chieftain and House Representative member has only found his way back home.
Commenting on the return of Chief Ogbaburon to the PDP fold, he said, it will usher in a new vista for the people of the area but reminded that government has not neglected any part of the state in its infrastructural development agenda.
The state PDP chairman, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi who welcomed the former DPP members in Udu led by Ogbaburon asked that they be accommodated immediately to their positions in the party.
He said with the return of the members the party was now better united to clinch victory in Saturday’s election as well as other forthcoming elections.
Chief Nwaoboshi thanked Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for showing good leadership and commended the Deputy Governor, Professor Amos Utuama, the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Right Honorable Victor Ochei, the South South Vice Chairman, Dr. Steve Oru and other party chieftains for their support in advancing the good fortunes of the party.
For his part, Honorable Ogbaburon and the member representing Udu constituency in the House of Assembly, Honorable Keston Okoro assured that they had come back home to join the PDP train.
