October 28, (THEWILL) — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has issued a stern warning to nightclub operators and fun seekers over the growing culture of organising and attending drug parties, describing it as a dangerous and illegal trend threatening Nigeria’s social and moral fabric.
THEWILL earlier reported that NDLEA operatives recently raided a suspected drug party held at Proxy Night Club, located at 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos. The operation, which began late on Saturday, October 25, and continued into the early hours of Sunday, October 26, 2025, led to the arrest of more than 100 attendees, including the club owner, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, and his manager, Joachin Millary.
A statement signed on Monday by its Spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA reiterates that any event organised for the purpose of consuming, distributing, or promoting the abuse of illicit substances constitutes a serious criminal offence under the NDLEA Act.
“These ‘drug parties’ are blatant violations of Nigerian law and will be treated as grave narcotic crimes”, the agency said.
It expressed dismay that the organisers of the Proxy Night Club event went as far as producing and distributing flyers to advertise the illegal gathering, calling it “an incitement to commit crime and an affront to national law enforcement.”
The agency further noted that Nigeria is currently battling a high rate of drug abuse, especially among young people, warning that such events not only worsen the crisis but also serve as breeding grounds for new addicts.
“These illicit drug parties undermine ongoing national efforts to safeguard public health and security”, it added.
Providing details of the Lagos operation, the NDLEA said it acted on credible intelligence and deployed undercover agents who conducted surveillance, purchased drugs from the venue, and monitored activities for several hours before the raid.
“Between 11 p.m. on Saturday and 3 a.m. on Sunday, our operatives observed open drug sales and abuse before moving in to disrupt the illegal gathering and effect arrests”, the agency said.
During the operation, NDLEA officers seized 384.882 kilograms of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, along with other illicit substances found in the club’s store. All attendees were later profiled, counselled, and released within hours in line with global best practices, while the two prime suspects — Pretty Mike and his manager — remain in custody.
The agency warned that property owners who knowingly allow their venues to be used for such illegal activities would face severe consequences, including asset forfeiture to the Federal Government.
“We will prosecute those in custody and seek forfeiture of Proxy Night Club, where the drugs were discovered”, it affirmed.
Reiterating its commitment to protecting society from drug-related crimes, the NDLEA urged Nigerians — particularly parents, religious leaders, and community heads — to remain vigilant and report suspicious gatherings or activities.
“Drug abuse poses a grave threat to our nation’s well-being. All citizens must join hands with the NDLEA to ensure that our communities remain safe, healthy, and free from the menace of narcotics”, the agency charged.
