June 02, (THEWILL) – The National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South-East zone, Chidiebere Egwu Goodluck, has declared that the PDP in Ebonyi State currently has no valid executive at any level — from the 171 wards to the 13 local government areas and the state level.
Egwu stated this during an interview with journalists in Abakaliki on Monday while addressing the state of the party in Ebonyi.
He explained that the tenure of the last caretaker committee had expired, leaving a vacuum in the leadership structure of the party.
He also dismissed the congress that produced Onyekachi Nwele as state chairman as null and void, describing it as a “purported congress” that had already been invalidated by a Federal High Court.
“As it stands, no one can claim to be a valid executive member of the party from the ward to the state level.
“The caretaker committee’s tenure has elapsed, and we are preparing for a proper congress. When the time comes, I will inform stakeholders across the 171 wards and 13 local government areas,” Egwu said.
He noted that the party is currently focused on a membership drive aimed at re-engaging supporters and restoring confidence in the PDP as a foundational pillar of Nigeria’s democracy.
“We are meeting with stakeholders to identify true party loyalists across the wards and LGAs.
“PDP remains the bedrock of democracy in Nigeria, and I thank God the party has produced over 90 per cent of successful politicians in the country. It’s time to bring back that voice,” he said.
Egwu emphasized that the zonal leadership, as empowered by the PDP Constitution, will continue to oversee the affairs of the state chapter pending the conduct of a legitimate congress.
“The party constitution clearly states that the National Vice Chairman can oversee the running of a state chapter in the absence of a valid executive.
“The congress that produced Onyekachi Nwele was quashed by the Federal High Court because it failed to follow due process,” he said.
He explained that proper congresses require a transparent process — from the purchase of nomination forms to screening of aspirants and notification of the National Working Committee, which in turn mandates a panel to conduct the exercise.
“Nwele cannot parade himself as state chairman. I have chosen not to escalate the situation, but technically, his self-proclamation is illegal.
“If I wanted to, I could order his arrest for impersonation. Yes, he may be a member of the PDP, but he is not the state chairman,” Egwu added.
