March 27, (THEWILL) – The Ebonyi North Youth Stakeholders Forum has condemned the recent verbal attack by former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, against the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, describing her remarks as disrespectful and unwarranted.
Speaking on behalf of the group, its National President, Comrade Chijioke Njoku, accused Ezekwesili of attempting to discredit Senator Nwebonyi’s leadership and contributions to his constituents. He demanded that the former minister tender an unreserved public apology.
“Senator Nwebonyi has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to the welfare of his constituents in less than two years in office,” Njoku said.
He highlighted the senator’s efforts in agriculture, human capital development, and various empowerment initiatives, stressing that many lives had been positively impacted under his leadership.
Njoku further expressed concerns that Ezekwesili’s remarks were not just an attack on Nwebonyi but an insult to the people of Ebonyi North and the entire Southeast region.
“Her comments are not only unfair but also an attempt to undermine the progress being made by one of our own. Instead of divisive rhetoric, we should encourage unity and development,” he added.
Reaffirming their support for Senator Nwebonyi, the youth leader emphasised that while constructive criticism is essential in democracy, personal attacks and character assassination have no place in political discourse.
Njoku, however, expressed hope that maturity and cooperation would prevail in political engagements, ensuring that efforts toward development and progress in Ebonyi North remain on course.
