March 27, (THEWILL) – The Executive Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Ogun State, Hon. Afeez Balogun, has presented a ₦9.89 billion budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year to the Legislative Council.

Presenting the budget to the Leader of the House, Hon. Jamiu Ogundairo, at the council’s legislative chamber, Balogun said the proposal aligns with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s ISEYA agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to drive progress at the grassroots level.

He explained that factors such as the removal of fuel subsidy, adjustments to the minimum wage, anticipated promotions, incremental salary awards, and developmental projects contributed to the budget increase.

Giving a breakdown of the proposal, Balogun stated that the total expenditure stands at ₦9,894,011,092.84.

He noted that ₦2.15 billion, representing 21.69 percent of the total budget, has been earmarked for capital expenditure to fund infrastructure projects that will improve the lives of residents.

A sum of ₦1.18 billion, accounting for 11.90 percent, is allocated for the council’s running costs, while ₦1.78 billion, representing 17.95 percent, is set aside for salaries and allowances of council workers.

The chairman expressed confidence in the feasibility of the budget, stressing that with the cooperation of the Legislative Council, community leaders, and residents, the proposal would be successfully implemented.

He urged lawmakers to give the budget top priority, emphasizing the need for collaboration to ensure lasting development in the local government.

In his response, Hon. Ogundairo assured the chairman of the legislature’s support for policies aimed at poverty reduction, security enhancement, and economic growth.

He described the budget as a strategic tool for addressing pressing challenges and urged the chairman to take proactive steps in alleviating the hardship faced by residents.

“The budget laid before us today is not just a financial document but a reflection of our collective determination to tackle the most critical needs of our people, foster economic growth, and ensure security and peaceful coexistence in this local government,” he said.

Ogundairo reaffirmed the legislature’s commitment to working closely with the executive to achieve the council’s developmental goals.
