The suspended legislators had in May defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside former Speaker, Honourable Razaq Momoh.

The 11 lawmakers present at the session said the affected legislators infringed on Section 38 rule 3 of the Assembly by taking the Assembly to court over plans to declare their seats vacant following their defection.

Honourable Paul Ohonbamu moved the motion for their suspension while Majority Leader of the Assembly, Honourable Phillip Shaibu seconded it.
