Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the preferred candidate of Governor Adams Oshiomhole has won the governorship primary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) conducted Saturday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
Obaseki, who heads Oshiomhole’s economic team, won by 1618 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Deputy Governor Pius Odubu, who polled 471 votes according to the result declared by Katsina Governor Aminu Masaki, the Chairman of the election committee.
Voting commenced at 5.30pm with Oshiomhole in attendance as delegate from Edo North Senatorial District.
A total of 2,582 delegates were accredited to elect the party’s flag bearer in the September 10, 2016 election.
Other aspirants were former Minister Chris Ogiemwonyi, retired General Charles Airhiavbere, Kenneth Imasuangbon, Blessing Agbomhere, Peter Esele, Oserheimen Osunbor, Tina Agbarha, Austin Emuan, Emmanuel Arigbe-Osula and Professor Ebegbue Amadasun.
