SAN FRANCISCO, October 10, (THEWILL) – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Uche Ogah, ‘Governor of Abia state’ who had filed a suit at a Federal High Court, Abuja, to challenge the emergence of Okezie Ikpeazu, the incumbent Governor.
THEWILL gathered that Ogah was arrested at the premises of the magistrates’ court on Lagos Island, Lagos, on Monday morning, for alleged fraud.
Ogah had argued that Ikpeazu was unqualified to hold an elective office because he evaded tax prior to his election and submitted false information to the PDP in the course of the party’s primary election.
Ogah who placed second at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Abia state governorship primary in 2015 had declared himself Governor of the state after Justice Okon Abang ruled in his favour, ordering the removal of Ikpeazu.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also issued him a certificate of return which meant that the state technically had two sitting governors as Ikpeazu refused to vacate office and went to the Appeal Court which set aside the judgment of Abang.
