BEVERLY HILLS, June 09, (THEWILL) – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed corruption charges against two federal high court judges recently recalled by the National Judicial Council (NJC).
THEWILL recalls that the Commission, last saturday, announced the recall of six out of eight judges accused of corruption after a raid by the Department of State Security (DSS).
It said the government failed to file charges against five of the judges months after their arrest and suspension; hence its decision to recall them.
However, the EFCC has now filled 14-count charges of unlawful enrichment against Hyeladzira Nganjiwa, a judge in the federal high court, Lagos.
The anti-graft agency alleged that the judge had a significant increase in his assets that he could not reasonably explain in relation to his lawful income.
In the same vein, the EFCC also filled four-count charges of corruption and attempting to pervert the course of justice against Mohammed Yunusa, a judge in the federal high court, Lagos.
All the charges against the recalled judges were filed at the Lagos state high court.
