November 24, (THEWILL) — Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of SP Orvenonne Ikwen as the new National Coordinator of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), the Nigeria Police Force’s flagship non-kinetic initiative focused on preventing cultism and curbing social vices through community-driven engagement.
The appointment was announced in a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who said the move aligns with the IGP’s push for intelligence-led, technology-driven, and citizen-centric policing.
SP Ikwen, who holds a PhD in Computer Science with a specialisation in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science from the University of Calabar, brings significant expertise in technology-enabled policing, behavioural change communication, and police transformation efforts.
She is also a member of the Institute of Strategic Management of Nigeria and the Institute of Conflict Management & Negotiation Analyst.
The statement noted that she has played key roles in inter-agency collaborations, research and development, and public engagement within the security sector.
As National Coordinator of POCACOV, Ikwen is expected to deepen nationwide outreach across schools, campuses, communities, and youth platforms, tackling issues such as cultism, drug abuse, cyber vulnerabilities, gender-based violence, and misinformation through awareness, participation, and preventive strategies.
The IGP charged her to deploy innovative approaches that boost public trust and strengthen partnerships with civil society groups, community leaders, educational institutions, youth organisations, and long-standing supporters of the campaign.
The appointment reinforces the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to preventive policing and broad-based community collaboration as essential tools in combating crime and safeguarding the nation.
