December 29, (THEWILL) — Egypt concluded their Group B campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations by claiming top spot following a goalless stalemate against Angola at Stade Adrar on Monday evening.
The result confirmed Egypt’s progression to the Round of 16, whilst Angola departed the tournament after collecting just two points from their three group matches.
Angola controlled possession during the opening exchanges and threatened first when defender Kialonda Gaspar wasted a promising opportunity inside 10 minutes, sending his shot well over the crossbar.
Egypt responded midway through the half as Mostafa Mohamed missed a close-range header following an acrobatic delivery into the penalty area.
The Black Sable Antelopes continued to press before the interval, with Chico Banza unable to finish a slick passing sequence on the edge of the box in the 42nd minute.
Neither team managed to convert their chances before the half-time whistle.
Angola nearly broke the deadlock shortly after the restart when Fredy struck the woodwork with a well-executed free-kick from the edge of the Egyptian penalty area.
Moments later, Zizo forced Hugo Marquez into an excellent save with a curling effort at the opposite end.
Both nations increased the tempo as the match entered its final 10 minutes, but neither could find the decisive goal.
The encounter finished goalless, confirming Egypt’s place at the summit of Group B and ending Angola’s tournament participation.
