SAN FRANCISCO, October 14, (THEWILL) – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has urged Nigerians to redouble their efforts and work for the unity and progress of the country.
He said the occasion of the Eid el-Kabir celebration calls for repentance and forgiveness of one another especially now that the country is facing numerous challenges.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Malam Imam Imam, Tambuwal enjoined Nigerians to be steadfast in love to one another. He said that it is by so doing that we can be committed to what is just and right for our nation.
Tambuwal urged the Muslim faithful to intensify their prayers for peace in the country, and admonished religious leaders to lead their followers properly so that they do not depart from the truth.
The Speaker assured that the National Assembly would continue to be guided by the wishes and aspirations of Nigerians in the onerous task of making laws for peace, unity and good governance of the Nation.
Ihedioha urges Nigerians to embrace patriotism
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha has congratulated Muslims as they commence on Tuesday the celebration of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir Sallah festival, enjoining them to ensure that peace, order and love for one another remain their watchwords during the Sallah season and thereafter.
In his Sallah message to commemorate this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration, the Deputy Speaker urged our Muslim brothers to emulate the exemplary life of Prophet Mohammed by demonstrating the virtues of charity, gratitude and humility noting that by so doing the whole essence of the celebration would be achieved, a statement from his office said.
He however urged Nigerians to explore the opportunity offered by the Sallah celebration to reappraise their commitment to the unity and harmony of Nigeria with a view to reinforcing their efforts towards making Nigeria a united, virile and strong nation.
He said: “For Nigeria to emerge as one of the greatest nations in the world, all the citizens both the leaders and the led must be patriotic, working together purposefully as a united entity to ensuring the attainment of greatness and nation building”.
He enjoined Nigerians to take a cue from the Super Eagles players who defeated the Ethiopian national team on Sunday in a rare show of patriotism in spite of all odds, to be dedicated to the service of fatherland.
Uphold love, accountability, Atiku urges Nigerians
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that accountability and a sense of inter-personal love are two important values that Nigerians must continue to uphold.
The former Vice President made this assertion in a statement issued on Monday by his media office in Abuja, congratulating Muslims in the country on the celebration of the Eid-el-Kabir festival.
He said that accountability would ensure the freeing of government resources for development to end joblessness, insecurity and pervasive economic hardship facing Nigerians.
According to the former Vice President, who is also the Turaki Adamawa, the celebration of the Eid-el-Kabir festival is a celebration of forthrightness of man to God, and also of the Almighty’s love to humanity.
“It is thus important for each and every one of us to evaluate our relationships and ensure that it complies with the values of accountability and love to one another; this is essentially what the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir festival entails,” Atiku said.
The statement added further that, “as we gather to celebrate with our friends and families, we must never forget our country in our prayers. Nigeria and Nigerians need love more than ever before in light of our current challenges; and therefore we must remain relentless in our prayers to God to bless our land with love and peace.”
The New Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the leadership of Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje Monday congratulated Nigerian Muslims and other faithful across the world on the occasion of the 2013 Eid-el-Kabir.
A statement from the faction of the ruling party said, “However, as we celebrate Allah’s benevolence, it is important for us to pause and reflect on the significance of this celebration, which highlights the need for sacrifice and the benefits thereof.
“By his willingness to sacrifice his son as commanded by Allah, Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) demonstrated the need for us to be willing to make sacrifices for our desired goals. This lesson couldn’t have been more timely as the present situation in the country is such that calls for sacrifices on the part of all Nigerians but especially by those in positions of responsibility becomes imperative.
“It also calls for prayers for divine intervention, which explains why our party chieftains led by our National Chairman, Alhaji Baraje, who went to the Holy Land for this year’s pilgrimage, used the opportunity to pray for our troubled country.
“We are confident that with prayers and the needed sacrifices, Allah will show us mercy and intervene to solve our current economic and political challenges.
“We therefore wish our Muslim brothers and, indeed, all Nigerians, happy Eid-el-Kabir.
