September 05, (THEWILL) — Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has criticised the Kaduna State Police Command for summoning him over alleged criminal conspiracy and public disturbance, describing the move as a “dangerous descent into lawlessness.”
The Kaduna Police Command had invited El-Rufai and six members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for questioning over allegations of criminal conspiracy, public incitement, mischief, and inflicting grievous harm.
The invitation, dated September 4, 2025, and signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (CID), Uzairu Abdullahi, directed the ADC State Chairman to present El-Rufai and the others before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8. The summons followed a petition by unnamed complainants.
Those listed include El-Rufai, Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (alias “30”), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (alias “Mikiya”).
“This Department is currently investigating the above-mentioned case involving the following members of your party.
“You are requested to come along with them to SCID to clarify allegations reported against them by the complainants on 8th September, 2025,” the letter stated.
Hours before the summons became public, police officers sealed the ADC state secretariat at No. 4 Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna, ahead of a planned solidarity visit by the party’s North-West leadership.
The visit was scheduled in response to a violent attack on ADC members by suspected thugs the previous week.
Reacting, El-Rufai condemned the police action, insisting that no valid court order had been served and describing the move as unconstitutional. He vowed to challenge the matter in court.
“He knows what he’s writing violates the Constitution. We have not seen the court order. It has not been properly served to us.
“Even if there is a court order, there is a legal process to serve an affected person, and it has not been served on us.
“As responsible leaders, we decided that even though we have not seen the order, we believe the commissioner of police, because we don’t believe the commissioner could be lying.
“We want to see that order, and, of course, we will challenge it up to the Supreme Court. This is not the end of it. Other things will follow,” El-Rufai said.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Government has maintained its stance. In a statement on September 1, the Commissioner for Internal Security, Dr. Shehu Shuaibu, accused the former governor of plotting to destabilise peace in the state, warning that “anyone who dares to threaten it, be it Nasir El-Rufai or any of his accomplices, will be held accountable.”
