Nasir-El-Rufai-

March 28, (THEWILL) — Kaduna State former governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been temporarily released from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), in a development that brings relief to his family amid a period of profound personal loss.

His son, Bashir El-Rufai, disclosed the news in a post on his X handle on Friday, confirming that his father had regained freedom after weeks in detention.

“My beloved great legend of a father (@elrufai) is being released… Thank you all for all the support. Our family shall never forget these times. We have overcome, as the El-Rufais”, he wrote, expressing gratitude to supporters and well-wishers.

El-Rufai had been in ICPC custody since February 18 over allegations bordering on financial misconduct and related matters.

Although the anti-corruption agency has yet to release an official statement clarifying the terms of his temporary release, the development signals a new phase in the ongoing investigation.

The former governor’s release comes at a particularly emotional time for the family, following the death of his mother, Umma El-Rufai, earlier on Friday in Cairo, Egypt.
