BEVERLY HILLS, December 9, (THEWILL) – The Emir of Katagum, Bauchi State, Alhaji Kabir Umar, is dead.

Alhaji Umar died on Saturday night, aged 89, after a protracted illness of five years and is survived by 49 children.

His death was announced in a statement by the Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, saying the Emir would be buried on Sunday.

“With a heavy heart, I’m sad to announce the passing on today, of one of our royal fathers, Alhaji Kabir Umar, the Emir of Katagum,” the statement read.

“He was upright, just and kept the teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). His death is a great loss to not just our state but also Nigeria.

“We take succour in the truth that every soul shall taste death. We pray that the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him paradise.

“Our thoughts and prayers are also with his family.

“The funeral prayer and interment of the remains of the late royal father will hold on Sunday, December 10, 2017, at his palace in Azare at 11:00 am.”

The Bauchi state governor and other prominent government officials are expected to be in attendance.
