BEVERLY HILLS, February 02, (THEWILL) –The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II has dethroned a younger brother to the Governor of the state, Alhaji Sani Umar Ganduje as village head of Ganduje in Dawakin Tofa local government over an alleged financial misappropriation.
Sanusi, who announced this yesterday at a special palace sitting in Kano, explained that the measure was necessitated by what he termed “gross negligence of duty” which the emirate council found disturbing.
The dismissal was the outcome of an investigation by Kano emirate council following petition by unspecified numbers of intending pilgrims from Ganduje village claiming that they were ripped off by the village head.
Sanusi, while personally announcing the dethronement of the Governor’s younger brother as village head, said “I wished to announce the dismissal of the village head of Ganduje in line with the outcome of investigation on breach of public trust.
“The action was taken because it is an offence for one to smear the good image of the traditional institution.
“The Village Head was stripped of his turban as his offence bordered on gross official misconduct which the palace was all out to jettison for the sake of safeguarding the credibility of the revered institution,” he said.
The Emir harped on the need for all traditional rulers in the state to exhibit a high sense of responsibility in all their dealings, even as he urged all traditional rulers in the Emirate to be disciplined and avoid acts capable of denting the reputation of the institution.
