December 21, (THEWILL) – Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze will miss Saturday’s English Premier League match against Arsenal due to a foot injury sustained during recent fixtures.
The England international aggravated an existing foot condition during Palace’s 3-2 League Cup quarter-final defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.
The initial injury occurred in the previous weekend’s 3-1 EPL victory at Brighton and Hove Albion.
Palace manager Oliver Glasner confirmed the setback during Friday’s pre-match press conference, stating, “We have no one back yet, but we do have one more injury: Ebs is unavailable. He got a hit against Brighton on his foot. He played with quite a swollen foot at the Emirates and also got the next kick there, so he is not 100 per cent.”
The manager explained the decision to rest Eze, emphasising the importance of having players at full fitness.
He stated, “You always feel pain when you move and then you are thinking too much about this and cannot play how you can play. We need the best Eberechi Eze he can be and therefore he has to be fit like all the other players.”
Palace enter the fixture seeking to extend their unbeaten EPL run to six matches.
The team currently sits in 15th position, having accumulated points through victories over Ipswich and Brighton, combined with draws against Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Manchester City.
Glasner remains optimistic about Eze’s return for the upcoming Bournemouth fixture, stating.
He said, “I expect Ebere to be available for Bournemouth. Of course, it is important to have your team together, and we will go for getting a better result than two days ago at the Emirates.”
