January 05, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian equities market delivered a powerful bullish performance on Monday, posting one of its strongest single-day returns in recent sessions as aggressive buying pressure swept across the market. Investors drove prices higher across sectors, resulting in a wide and decisive gap between advancing and declining stocks, a clear signal of renewed confidence at the start of the trading week.

Market capitalisation surged by ₦1.869 trillion to close at ₦101.806 trillion, from an opening level of ₦99.937 trillion. In the same vein, the All-Share Index (ASI) climbed by 2,725.86 points to settle at 159,218.22 points, up from 156,492.36 points at the opening of the session.

Market breadth closed overwhelmingly positive, with 73 gainers against just 8 losers, underscoring the depth of the rally and confirming broad-based investor participation.

Top Gainers

ABBEYBDS led the gainers’ chart, advancing by 10.00 percent (to close at ₦6.60 from ₦6.00).

CADBURY followed with a 10.00 percent appreciation, (closing at ₦64.90 from ₦59.00).

CHAMPION also gained 10.00 percent, (rising to ₦15.40 from ₦14.00).

FIDSON added 10.00 percent (to close at ₦60.50 from ₦55.00).

FTNCOCOA climbed by 10.00 percent, (ending the session at ₦6.05 from ₦5.50).

Top Losers

On the losing side, JULI declined by 9.93 percent (to close at ₦7.26 from ₦8.06).

IKEJAHOTEL dropped by 9.91 percent, (settling at ₦40.45 from ₦44.90).

SUNUASSUR shed 4.55 percent (to close at ₦5.25 from ₦5.50).

SOVRENINS dipped by 2.36 percent (to ₦3.72 from ₦3.81).

BERGER lost 2.08 percent, (closing at ₦47.00 from ₦48.00).

Stocks that closed flat for the session included MTN Nigeria Communications, Seplat Energy, Okomu Oil Palm, Presco Plc, Custodian Investment, and Julius Berger.
