November 17, (THEWILL) — The Nigerian equities market closed negatively today as sustained sell pressure in major large-cap stocks particularly industrial goods pushed the benchmark indicators lower.

The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) declined from 145,159.77 points compared to the opening level of 147,013.59 points, while Market Capitalisation fell from N93.507 trillion to N92.328 trillion, reflecting weakened investor confidence.

Market Breadth Turns Mixed

The session recorded 28 gainers and 24 losers, showing a mildly positive breadth despite the market’s downward movement. The divergence highlights selective buying in mid- and small-cap counters while significant selloffs in heavyweight stocks dragged the broader index into negative territory.

Investor Sentiment

Despite the index decline, investor sentiment remained somewhat balanced, as shown by the nearly even spread of gainers and losers. Activity suggests a cautious mix of profit-taking in blue-chip stocks and bargain hunting in small- and mid-cap names.
