January 20, (THEWILL) – Ethiopian Airlines has successfully retained its IATA CEIV Pharma (Center of Excellence for Independent Validators in Pharmaceutical Logistics) certification, reaffirming its position as a leader in pharmaceutical air cargo services in Africa.
The certification, which recognizes excellence in the transportation and handling of pharmaceutical products, further underscores the airline’s dedication to meeting the highest international standards in healthcare logistics.
The Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, hailed the achievement as a testament to the airline’s commitment to supporting the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.
“This recertification underscores our unwavering commitment to excellence in healthcare logistics,” he said.
Tasew highlighted Ethiopian Airlines’ strategic vision to make Addis Ababa a premier pharma corridor in the global south.
“With a global network spanning key healthcare logistics hubs, we are dedicated to providing reliable and efficient air cargo services that address the logistical challenges of healthcare transportation.

The IATA CEIV Pharma certification is a globally recognized benchmark ensuring the safe and efficient handling of pharmaceutical products. Ethiopian Airlines became the first African airline to achieve this certification in 2022.
With this latest recertification, the airline reiterates its commitment to modernizing its cold chain infrastructure, investing in specialized training, and integrating innovative technologies to enhance its pharmaceutical logistics capabilities.
The certification provides a globally recognized assurance of quality and reliability, giving customers, partners, and regulators confidence in Ethiopian Airlines’ ability to handle pharmaceutical shipments according to international standards.
Ethiopian Cargo and Logistics Services operates the largest cargo network in Africa. With a fleet comprising 10 Boeing 777-200F, three Boeing 767-300F, and four Boeing 737-800F dedicated freighters, alongside 150+ passenger aircraft, Ethiopian Airlines serves 70 dedicated cargo destinations and over 140 passenger destinations globally.
The airline’s advanced cargo facilities, equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and a capacity of handling one million tons annually, offer tailored services for various types of cargo, including pharmaceuticals, horticulture, valuables, live animals, e-commerce, and courier services.
On average, Ethiopian Cargo handles over 2,000 tons daily, reinforcing its reputation as a reliable partner in global logistics.
