Steven Naismith’s header earned new Everton boss Roberto Martinez his first league win as they held on to beat Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.
Naismith gave Everton the lead just before half-time when he headed in following Nikica Jelavic’s nod-back.
Earlier, Samuel Eto’o was denied a first Chelsea goal when fellow debutant Gareth Barry blocked his shot after Tim Howard passed to Andre Schurrle.
Howard then saved Ramires’ shot before Leighton Baines hit the bar late on.
Defeat for Chelsea was their first in the Premier League under Mourinho during his second spell at the club.
