SAN FRANCISCO, July 31, (THEWILL) – The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig-Gen. Paul Boroh (retd), has revealed that ex-Niger Delta militants will start receiving their stipends on Monday.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the Head of the Media and Communication Department of the office of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Abuja, Mr. Piriye Keyaramo who added that Boroh appealed to the ex-militants to shelve the planned protests scheduled to hold on Monday.
He expressed concern over the plight of the ex-agitators in respect of the delay in the payment of their stipends saying that President Muhammandu Buhari appreciated their patience and the challenges were being addressed.
He further disclosed that the Federal Government planned to improve the amnesty programme for the benefit of the 30,000 ex-militants and other youths in the region.
“President Buhari attaches so much importance to the Amnesty Programme, which explains why the President in his inaugural address to the nation specifically promised to invest heavily in the projects, and programmes currently in place for the ex-agitators in the region,” the statement read.
“President Muhammandu Buhari, is already putting together a youth development and empowerment package that would directly impact the ex-agitators and other youths in the region.”
