Ex-NNPC GMD, Barkindo Named OPEC Secretary-General

BEVERLY HILLS, June 02, (THEWILL) – Mr. Mohammed Barkindo, who was the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, from 2009 to 2010, has been announced as the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC.

Barkindo, was recently nominated by the Federal Government for the position, and was chosen at the 13-member oil cartel’s 169th conference in Vienna to replace Libya’s Abdalla El-Badri.

The former NNPC boss had served as acting Secretary-General of OPEC in 2006, as well as representing Nigeria at the international organization.
