SAN FRANCISCO, January 20, (THEWILL) – An appeal has been made to the Adamawa State governor, Bala James Ngilari, for the payment of the WAEC/NECO fees for the students displaced from their communities by the Boko Haram insurgency.
The State House of Assembly made the appeal Monday in a motion moved by the Chairman, Committee on Information and member representing Michika constituency, Hon. Adamu Kamale.
According to Kamale, the deplorable conditions of the students displaced from their communities have made it incumbent on the state government to come to their aid by paying their NECO/WAEC fees for this year.
Lamenting the terror unleashed by the Boko Haram insurgents in some parts of the state , Kamale said many of the affected victims can no longer cater for themselves talk less of paying the examination fees of their wards.
The lawmaker, who disclosed that some of the students had even lost their parents to the insurgency, therefore called on the Assembly to intervene by asking the state government to come to the aid of final year students who are about to sit for the NECO/WAEC examinations in the state.
The member, representing Uba/Gaya constituency, Hon. Aliyu Iya, said it has become necessary for the state government to support the displaced students for the “development of our future leaders in the state” as he stressed that education is the bedrock of development .
The motion was also supported by the member representing Gombi constituency, Hon. Jerry Kumdisi, who stated that the resolution is timely considering the condition of the IDPs in the zone.
