SAN FRANCISCO, November 04, (THEWILL) – An explosion has occurred at a production facility in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 40 causing significant damage to the marine storage vessel, MT Harcourt.

A statement by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of NNPC, Kennie Obateru said there were no fatalities and no significant spill in the incident.

However, the corporation disclosed that there was significant damage to the marine storage vessel, MT Harcourt, which it projected, will impact production by about 10,000barrels of oil per day.

“The Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), an upstream subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, has reported an explosion at a production facility in Oil Mining Lease (OML) 40.

“The incident involved its partners, Elcrest Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited while carrying out production evacuation at Gbetiokun Early Production facility” the statement stated.

But the NNPC noted that it had since commenced investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident with a view to averting future occurrence.
