April 16, (THEWILL) – Crystal Palace extended their winning streak under veteran manager, Roy Hodgson, with a 2-0 victory over Southampton on Saturday.
The win marks the first time this season that the London side has secured three consecutive victories. Palace’s Eberechi Eze scored both goals to deal a major blow to the south-coast club’s English Premier League survival hopes.
Despite a dominant first-half performance by Southampton, the club was unable to capitalise on their chances. In the second half, Palace took the lead when Jordan Ayew’s cross was deflected by Southampton’s goalkeeper, leaving Eze with a simple tap-in. Eze secured the win for his side with a stunning long-range shot for his seventh goal of the season.
Although Paul Onuachu was brought in for international teammate Joe Aribo on the second-half, the 28-year-old could only manage one shot on goal in the entirety of the 28 minutes he featured in the tie.
The result moved Palace up to 12th place in the EPL, nine points clear of the relegation zone and demonstrated the wisdom in bringing Hodgson to keep the London side in the top flight. Meanwhile, Southampton, who are now four points behind 17th-placed Everton, face a crucial match against Arsenal on Friday. Palace will face Everton on Saturday.
