October 09, (THEWILL) – Crystal Palace had Eberechi Eze to thank for coming from behind to take a 2-1 win from Leeds United at their home grounds in Selhurst Park.
The early opener came from the visitors as Leeds’ Pascal Struijk, who calmly inserted a rebound after Brenden Aaronson’s shot hit the post in the 10th minute. But, just a quarter of an hour after, Odsonne Edouard headed in Michael Olise’s free kick for Palace to level the scores in the first half.
For the majority of the first half, Palace manager Patrick Vieira cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines. They managed to draw even thanks to that well-executed set piece, but otherwise they were careless whenever they had the ball close to Leeds’ box and it did not sit well with the manager.
After the break, the Eagles played considerably better, pressing Leeds consistently with some of the knocks the manager may have applied at halftime fresh on their minds. Then, Eze rifled in the game-winning goal in the 76th minute to cap off a truly remarkable all-round performance.
With the victory, Palace ended a four-match losing streak that moved them up to 15th place in the standings, level on points with Leeds. They will visit a struggling Leicester City team next. Leeds’ five-game losing record keeps them in 14th place. After this weekend, they host Arsenal.
