Falconets

September 27, (THEWILL) — Nigeria’s Under-20 women’s football team defeated Rwanda 4-0 in the second leg of their 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier at Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan on Saturday. The Falconets had previously won the first leg 1-0 in Kigali, bringing their total aggregate score to 5-0 across both matches.

Precious Oscar opened the scoring during the early stages of the match, setting the tone for Nigeria’s dominant performance. Janet Ayinde extended the lead with a long-range strike that brought the score to 3-0 after Fatimoh had doubled the advantage in the 20th minute of the first half. An additional goal from Afolabi completed the comprehensive victory for the home side.

Rwanda struggled throughout both legs of the tie, failing to find the back of the net in either fixture. The visiting team could not match Nigeria’s attacking intensity or create meaningful scoring opportunities during the decisive second leg in Ibadan.

Governor Seyi Makinde presented cash rewards to the Nigerian players following their convincing performance. The governor’s financial gesture recognised the team’s strong display on home soil, with individual payments made to each squad member.

The Falconets now progress to the final round of African qualifiers for the 2026 tournament. They will face more challenging opposition from across the continent, though their path to World Cup qualification remains achievable following this two-leg performance.
